APHELION is an all instrumental project formed on 2004 by Alessandro (keyboards),Sebastiano (bass),Matteo (guitars),and featuring a mixture of technical progressive and fusion/jazz styles.
After the recording of a previous two tracks demo CD called “Demonstructive”, excellently reviewed from press up in the world .In 2006 the band signed for the Italian label Lizard Records and a new drummer ,Enrico Pintonello, joined the group.
Keeping up the hard work and pushing the envelope higher and higher, finally in late 2007,the band records a 7 tracks full length album “Franticode” at the Majestic Studio (Venice ,Italy) and mixed by the keyboard-god DEREK SHERINIAN (Planet X, Billy Idol, Dream Theater, Alice Cooper, Yngwie Malmsteen) at his Beach Wood Manor studios in Los Angeles.
Italian fusion guitarist Alex Stornello also features on one track of the CD.
Aphelion’s main goal is to reach an unique, signature and groovy sound encompassing progressive, rock/fusion, technical metal, jazz ,experimental sides. This is not important to follow a genre or how good you play it but rather to create your own one.
Franticode reflects that.
FRANTICODE is the result of an hard work of structural, harmonic, rhythmic, melodic research, and of a huge arrangement effort.
The dense texture between the instrument gives the opportunity to create new solutions ,new proposals. Fraseggios, solos, rhythmic licks
never stand for themselves, they are alike the pieces of a patchwork turned towards something that sounds tasteful , weird ,groovy and tight at the same time.
Through the listening of Franticode you pass across many “tastes”, every single track sounds different and you may need more than a listen before enjoying it fully.
Technically speaking you could hear influences from Planet X, Gordian Knot, Spastic Ink, and many others, with lots of odd time signatures, unbeat times, dressy themes ,fusion-style solos and arrangement recalling tones familiar to Allan Holdsworth, Tribal Tech, Chick Corea, and other monster from the fusion community who are strongly deep-rooted in Aphelion’s background.
The production ,moreover, is stellar, thanks to the quality of recording
phase and to the amazing mix work of Derek Sherinian.
