La Maschera di Cera was founded in 2001 as a tribute to the sound of ’70s Italian progressive rock, on the initiative of Fabio Zuffanti who gathered around him keyboardist Agostino Macor, drummer Marco Cavani (from his other band Finisterre), singer Alessandro Corvaglia and flutist Andrea Monetti.
They debuted in 2002, with a self-titled already displaying a great compositional and stylistic maturity, hailed as “the best Italian prog album since the Alphataurus era”. The band, therefore, was immediately recognized as one of the leading names of the scene, and immediately started to play live: this “Live from the past: Milan, 2002” is their first concert ever.
The debut album “La Maschera di Cera” is here proposed in its entirety, along with “Dal caos” – borrowed from Finisterre – and a convincing version of Van Der Graaf Generator’s “Darkness (11/11)”. The beginning of a long and important story, that of a fundamental band in the current Italian progressive scene!
