INFANZIA, VOCAZIONE E PRIME ESPERIENZE DI GIACOMO CASANOVA, VENEZIANO (aka CASANOVA : HIS YOUTHFUL YEARS) is a movie directed in 1969 by Luigi Comencini and starring Leonard Whiting, Senta Berger, Maria Grazia Buccella, Tina Aumont, Raoul Grassilli, Nino Vingelli, Evi Maltagliati, Linda Sini, Gigi Reder, Umberto Raho, Mario Scaccia, Ennio Balbo, Lionel Stander, Sandro Dori, Jacques Herlin, Ida Meda, Isabella Savona, Clara Colosimo, Gino Santercole, Silvia Dionisio, Wilfrid Brambell, Sara Franchetti, Elisabetta Fanti, Loredana Martinez. Son of actors and orphaned of father, little Giacomo Casanova (Whiting) is entrusted by his mother, anxious to get rid of him, for the protection of a nobleman who in turn sends him to study in Padua. Giacomo is befriended and housed in his own home by Don Gozzi (Grassilli), a priest as generous as uncompromising and severe who, noticed the living intelligence of the child, he starts him to ecclesiastical studies as a means to make his way among the powerful people. So as abbot he returns to Venice, where he joins in the good graces of a patrician. At the end of the first sermon in the church, Giacomo finds some amorous tickets mixed with the money of begging. When he realizes that women – including ladies and converses too – demonstrate an interest in him, his vocation falters. He starts the sex experiencing it with a whore, then he promises to a little countess, that the mother had intended to the convent, to run away with her. But as soon as she realizes that she would become his wife abandons her to her fate, and forever threw his cassock, he begins with two complacent female friends of the girl his career of unrepentant libertine. Fiorenzo Carpi, one of the great names of Italian Film Music, has written an OST in eighteenth-century style, based on a delicate and nostalgic main theme alternating it with sumptuous Venetian dances like GIGA and FURLANA, beautifully conducted by Bruno Nicolai. For the making of this CD the master tape in stereo assembled for the promotional album printed at the time by RCA (SP 8026) with fourteen tracks and a duration of 30’07 was used. In the stereo master tapes of the original recording session, kept in excellent condition, about 46 minutes of unreleased music were discovered that bring the disc to a total duration of 76 “15”.
