Here is the empire of double meanings” is the fifth album by Homunculus Res, which closes a ten-year cycle.
After the lucubrations around the human condition, through the metaphors of the natural elements, the Sicilian complex could only arrive at transcendence, always in an inexorably nihilistic perspective and with the usual humor that here becomes darker and in some cases even absent.
Any reference to the human, society, history is avoided as much as possible. All meaning tends to be abstract. The theme is a continuous digression into the non-tangible: quintessence, absence, ether, cosmic and inner emptiness, limits of language and of the universe, destroyed and recomposed monads, memories of the future, senses, non-senses, double meanings, figures of speech, numbers ; are suggestions that often recur in the songs.
Songs with large instrumental spaces, as we have become accustomed to, with their particular melodic progressive pop-rock style with irregular structures, which here becomes even more dry and essential, even if there are episodes of instrumental richness that reach paroxysm, thanks to the several exceptional musicians, Italian and foreign, who participate with winds, voices, exotic and ancient instruments. There are references to number 5, not least the length of the album of fifty minutes.
There is no will to communicate anything or, better to say: there is the will not to communicate anything – while you are doing it.
The Homunculus Res have nothing to say, and in fact they don’t.
