Melting Clock is a musical project born in the Faculty of Physics, University of Genoa, in 2001. At the time the group’s aim, which brought
together experienced musicians and beginners, was sheer amusement and musical growth, pursued through the covering of songs by more
and less known bands of the progressive rock scene. Over the years the pieces studied have influenced Melting Clock’s sound: much attention
has been paid to some of the most interesting contemporary bands such as Porcupine Tree, Riverside, Opeth, Ayreon, without however
neglecting milestones that have made the history of the progressive genre like Pink Floyd, Genesis and PFM. Melting Clock have undergone
many line up changes: alongside the four founding members Sandro Amadei (keyboards and vocals), Stefano Amadei (guitars), Alessandro
Bosca (bass guitar) and Francesco Fiorito (drums), Simone Caffè (guitars) and Emanuela Vedana (vocals) more recently joined the band. The
skills acquired and the renewed enthusiasm led to the decision to devote to the composing of original music. Melting Clock’s style is
characterized by evocative and powerful sounds, which aim at immediately capturing the listener – without giving up elements of complexity
– and conveying a strong emotional charge. Lyrics are in our mother tongue, Italian. We fully follow the spirit of progressive music in our free
approach to writing and interest in contamination from the most diverse genres.
Altrove:
ALESSANDRO BOSCA: “The World as He Wakes Up” is a reflection on the perception of reality and the way it constantly changes as one’s
awareness evolves. Inspired by the birth of the first son, for whom each new awakening represents a new beginning, it also applies to the
adult when he finally manages to emancipate himself by overcoming convictions rooted over the years and accepting the most uncomfortable
truths; in doing so, the human being awakens and is reborn with a new awareness of himself and the world around him, finally free but only
after having paid dearly for this epiphany.
ALESSANDRO BOSCA: “Blacked-out City” is about the sudden loss of a loved one and the desire for absolution and reunion elaborated by the
subconscious while dreaming. Initially conceived following the premature loss of a maternal figure, the song later matured and became
relevant in the period of confinement due to the pandemic. In that sad time, a usually personal drama turned into a mass phenomenon with
an impact on society and on the subtle balance between morality and necessity. But it is only in the most intimate dream dimension that the
individual can reconcile and grant himself a final farewell, freeing his own soul as well as that of his loved one from remorse and suffering.
SANDRO AMADEI: “Elsewhere” is about the dream, shared by all, of escaping from the stress, worries and weariness of everyday life, yearning
to seek refuge on a remote little island where time seems to stand still, under the illusion of experiencing an eternal holiday. But this desire
actually conceals a deeper and sadly unattainable one: to go back in time to rediscover the idyllic wonder of a carefree childhood.
SANDRO AMADEI: “Paint” is a journey through the complexity of places of which the labyrinthine alleyways of Genoa’s neighborhoods are a
prime example, portrayed through the prejudiced gaze of those who do not reside there and therefore, not being part of their everyday life,
are unable to grasp their essence. Situations that often evoke suffering, degradation and neglect coexist with art, culture and examples of
wonderful humanity that make these places a kaleidoscope of extraordinary diversity.
SIMONE CAFFE’: “Endurance” was conceived following the reading of Alfred Lansing’s homonymous text, which relates the epic tale of the
vessel Endurance, which, after running aground in the pack during an Anglo-Saxon expedition to reach the South Pole, was crushed due to the
enormous pressure exerted by the ice. As a result, Captain Shackleton and his crew had to undertake an unprecedented journey under extreme
conditions that brought them safely back to South Georgia after months of hardship and unimaginable dangers.
EMANUELA VEDANA: “Ashen Sunsets” wants to issue a warning: due to man’s reckless and heinous behaviour, the Earth is now the scene of
irreversible climate change in which the only fate of the unaware human being seems to be extinction. However, by reversing the perspective
and thus considering life and death as a single cycle in eternal becoming, we can hope that after the catastrophe life will once again flourish
on our planet, finally freed from the deleterious human presence.
