Diego Banchero is a musician with a diverse artistic soul, making him not only an excellent bassist but also an excellent composer. Known as the leader of Il Segno Del Comando, he has also been part of other projects, including Il Ballo Delle Castagne, Malombra, Zess, Egida Aurea, and more.

For several years, he has also performed live as a trio, expressing himself with a musical language that draws inspiration from his masterful music while veering into other realms. Now, his album, “Gathered Lectures From A Lifetime,” is being released, blending jazz and dark influences with the addition of clear influences from 1970s crime film soundtracks.

With the support of his loyal collaborators Roberto Lucanato, one of Il Segno Del Comando’s guitar heroes, and drummer Fernando Cherchi, who also played with the Genoese band, Diego creates twelve entirely instrumental songs, all written by himself except for “Bloody Sunset,” in which Lucanato proves himself to be a master composer, a song that showcases his all-round talent.

Some pieces are from Il Segno Del Comando’s repertoire: from “Macabro Suite” and “Magia Postuma,” which highlight his innate cinematic talent, to the Hendrix-like development of “Le 4 A”; from “Metamorfosi,” which breaks free from any convention, to the incredible and dramatic melodies of “Messaggero di pietra.” Other reinterpretations include “Vestale,” a dreamy and ethereal song from the Egida Aurea project, and “Il viaggio,” from the Il Ballo Delle Castagne repertoire, here in a version that also explores psychedelic territory.

It’s not easy to find a side project with such inspiration, where the musicians’ blend, the fruit of years of working together, blends with the individual talents; this is made possible by Cherchi’s sophistication, Banchero’s class, and Lucanato’s eclecticism.
