Rome-born under the Aries sign, Fabio Melis studied at the Cinematography and TV Institute Roberto Rossellini, and became a guitarist at nine, when he discovered Mark Knopfler, and when he was dazzled by Bruce Springsteen (as nine was Bruce Springsteen when he saw Elvis at the Ed Sullivan Show), and he does not keep his musical influences hidden away. Plays Fender Telecaster and Gibson, guitars that have a precise meaning in rock music.
His songwriting is deeply influenced by the albums he listened to when he was growing up as a musician. And when he sings, the love for Californian country rock and East Coast rock clearly surfaces. Just mention Don Henley, John Fogerty, Bob Seger and Tom Petty to him and a big smile will show on his face. American FM and Southern Rock, pop greats, soul horns and vocals: all this fascinates and moves him. No prejudice, pure emotions. Melis brings all this in the studio and on stage.
First his cover bands, then originals, and at last Runaway Train, container for all his dreams. It’s Classic Rock packaged with passion, never disappointing. 14 of his many compositions are presented here in his debut album. Guitars and keyboards that sound like the albums of his youth, and a horn section that comes from afar, the very same Asbury Jukes Horns from New Jersey’s own Southside Johnny. If Fabio Melis’ roots are also your roots, you will love Lovin’ Eyes, Waiting For Us and all of Runaway Train’s tracks.
