The self-titled album by Néos Saint Just (i.e. Jenny Sorrenti & Tullio Angelini) is finally out.
The work represents the natural evolution of the Saint Just project, conceived and directed since the Seventies by Sorrenti herself.
One of the founding themes of this album is its sound construction, practiced without reservations and canons, aimed at coherently proposing an attitude to change for
the entire duration of the album. Both the vocal parts and the musical structures suggest the possibility of a shift “into the dream” and in connection with ritual atmospheres and existential experience.
The CD Néos Saint Just presents seven previously unreleased compositions sung in English (except the second song) and also features musicians.
The guests are:
CLIVE BELL (multi-instrumentalist and expert shakuhachi player): Khene
SYLVIA HALLETT (one of the most eclectic English violinists): violin
ALESSANDRO PIZZIN (who “reinvented” the music of The Residents under his moniker Alieno deBootes): keyboards
ROBIN RIMBAUD aka Scanner (collaborator with Michael Nyman, Laurie Anderson, Wayne MacGregor): electronics
ROBERTO SCARPA (Italian pianist, keyboardist and composer): piano
KENNY WOLLESEN (drummer already with Tom Waits and John Zorn, among others): electric vibraphone.
who I naturally accompany in this work
JENNY SORRENTI: keyboards, piano, vocals
TULLIO ANGELINI: loops and electronics
Néos Saint Just’s current sounds are dedicated to a more experimental approach to music and its contemporary vision.
This innovation process is the fulcrum of the new artistic path, which is also the basis of the future objective.
A significant part of the research initiated here will still be dedicated to the interaction between the unconventional sound and the possible timbres of the voice.
Jenny Sorrenti is an important voice, always kind and coherent, who does not shy away from the “new” but rather perceives and interprets it with a unique trepidation.
This is in harmony with the prospective and decisive role played by the presence of the musician Tullio Angelini, who indicates the direction of the entire project,
sometimes with irregular shifts of sound, other times oriented towards mutability and fluidity.
