“La Trasfigurazione” is the amazing debut album by Ornithos, a musical project that includes Diego Petrini (drums, organ, piano, mellotron, percussion and vocals), Eva Morelli (flute, alto, soprano and tenor sax), and Federico Caprai (bass guitar, vocals) from Il Bacio della Medusa, here joined by Antonello De Cesare (lead guitar, backing vocals), Simone Morelli (rhythm guitar) and Maria Giulia Carnevalini (lead and backing vocals).
Entirely sung in Italian and defined as ‘spiritualistic’ by the same band, the concept album “La Trasfigurazione” is a sonic experiment full of contaminations divided in three chapters, Past, Present and Future; a ‘total music’ where, instead of focusing on a single genre, the musicians prefer musical solutions inspired by moments, sensations, images and mental projections, on a solid Italian progressive rock basis, with a beautiful interposition of heavy, jazz, blues and soundtrack-like hints. Everything accompanies the story of an existential trip of a man who constantly fights and confronts himself and the society around him, until reaching equilibrium and internal regeneration.
An album destined to leave an indelible trace in what can be called the rebirth of Italian progressive rock: with a single release Ornithos find their place next to other great bands such as Maschera di Cera, Ubi Maior or Tempio delle Clessidre. Highly recommended for any prog-rock listener!
