Il Paese dei Balocchi is a band from Rome formed in 1971 with members of Under 2000, a group that had previously released a few singles. Their only self-titled album, originally issued in 1972, at the pinnacle of Italian and international progressive rock, is an extremely mature work of symphonic avant-pop that still sounds exceptional today.
“Il Paese dei Balocchi”, sadly the one and only LP recorded by the band, is a concept album based on philosophical/existentialist themes, almost entirely instrumental and remarkably characterized by classical arrangements and dynamics, a true journey of the soul consisting of two long suites, each one divided into five parts/tracks.
A wonderful album that needs to be rediscovered, reissued in jewelcase CD format.
