Forse nota a pochi oggi, Edith Peters fu molto attiva tra gli anni ’50 e ’70, innanzitutto come componente delle Peters Sisters; dopo aver sposato il proprio agente nel 1958 si trasferì dagli Stati Uniti in Italia, dove partecipò come attrice a film, pubblicità e serie TV.<\/p>\n
Nel 1973, medesimo anno di pubblicazione dell’LP di culto “Sway”, Sante Palumbo scrisse e arrangiò due brani per la voce di Edith Peters, forse nel tentativo di promuoverla in veste di cantante solista. “This Is the Moment”, originariamente pubblicata in un raro 45 giri come lato B di “Lord Please Hear my Prayer” su etichetta Cipiti Record. Ma la fama della Peters – che pure aveva già cantato nella colonna sonora de “Il Padrino” in “Speak Softly Love” – era ormai troppo legata alle sue apparizioni televisive e cinematografiche; il singolo inoltre, distribuito dalla EMI, fu sicuramente oscurato da altre uscite dello stesso anno ben più importanti quali, ad esempio, “Dark Side of the Moon”.<\/p>\n
Ed è un vero peccato, poiché “This Is the Moment”, a firma Tony Benn Feghaly – erroneamente riportato come ‘T. B. Feghall’ nell’edizione originale – e Sante Palumbo, è un brano gospel\/soul che trasuda groove da ogni solco. In poco più di due minuti e mezzo, oltre alla voce di Edith Peters accompagnata a più riprese da un coro gospel, sentiamo la Sante Palumbo Orchestra macinare note e assoli con una carica irresistibile, tanto che sono necessari più ascolti per assimilare del tutto le molteplici sfumature di questo brano.<\/p>\n
La versione originale di “This Is the Moment” è qui ospitata come B-side, mentre il lato A di questo esclusivo 45 giri ospita infine un personale ‘rework’ del medesimo brano a cura di Gerardo Frisina, che quasi ne raddoppia la durata con l’aggiunta di pattern ritmici nel suo inconfondibile stile!<\/p>\n

A quite unknown artist, Edith Peters was active between the 50s and 70s, singing as a member of the Peters Sisters, and as an actress; after marrying her Italian agent in 1958, she moved to Italy where she starred in several movies, TV series and ads.<\/p>\n
In 1973 Sante Palumbo wrote and arranged a couple of songs for Edith Peters, perhaps with the aim of promoting her solo career. It was the same he released “Sway”, which was destined to become a cult LP.<\/p>\n
“This Is the Moment” was originally released as the B-side of “Lord Please Hear my Prayer”, a rare 45 published by Cipiti Records. On Cipiti she had already released her rendition of “Speak Softly, Love”, a theme from “The Godfather” soundtrack, though her career was at that time orientated more toward her activity as a TV and movie actress. And when the single was released, it was rapidly overshadowed by more important releases like “The Dark Side Of The Moon” by Pink Floyd.<\/p>\n
And it is a shame, since “This Is the Moment”, written by Tony Benn Feghaly (erroneously credited as ‘T. B. Feghall’ in the original release) and Sante Palumbo, is an amazing gospel-soul song. In only two minutes and a half The Sante Palumbo Orchestra accompanies Peters’ entrancing voice, delivering a groovy and intense interpretation – a richness that requires multiple listen to grasp all the nuances of this stunningly orchestrated piece. <\/p>\n
