Founded by three friends in Palermo, Sicily, in 2011 by musicians active in the fertile underground music scene of the city, Smuggler Brothers aim to experiment new artistic directions, combining a diverse set of influences ranging from Italian soundtracks and Library music from the ‘60s and ‘70s to African-American music, with groove as the core essence of the band. From the initial nucleus, the band evolved soon into a 8-pieces combo.<\/p>\n
Following an exciting period spent rehearsing and honing their sound, Smuggler Brothers started an intense live activity, gaining the enthusiastic support of the local scene. In 2015 the band felt it was time to record their music – ‘Self-Titled’, their debut album was recorded at Zeit Studio in Palermo, 15-tracks that were pressed on limited edition vinyl and released via Tone Deaf Records. Shortly after their album tour, the band suffered a period of instability – the departure of some players slowly weakened the structure of the group, forcing the surviving band members to interrupt the live activity and reflect on the future of the project.<\/p>\n
2017 sees the band coming back to life and entering a new phase – with a renewed 5-element structure and a clear plan, the group started to work on new music and perform on stage again.<\/p>\n
At the end of the same year the Milan-based record label Schema Records decided to put Smuggler Brothers under a contract. The label interest and the artistic direction of Massimo Martellotta (Calibro 35) pushed the band forward: in October 2018 the Sicilian brothers eventually landed in Milan to record at Schema Records’ Blue Spirit Studio. Their second album is scheduled on Schema Records for a May 2019 release, and is anticipated by this 45rpm, which includes two brand new songs, exclusive to this 7’’ only: a tasty starter, for an excellent return!<\/p>\n

Gli Smuggler Brothers nascono a Palermo alla fine del 2011, dalla volontà di tre amici già attivi da diverso tempo all’interno della feconda scena musicale underground del capoluogo siciliano. L’obiettivo è quello di sperimentare nuove direzioni artistiche, attingendo e traendo ispirazione compositiva dall’immensa produzione made in Italy di colonne sonore, library music e sonorizzazioni degli anni 60\/70 e dalla Black Music americana, consacrando il groove a vera forza motrice della compagine. I tre amici iniziano così a reclutare nuovi membri da inserire in organico e, dopo diversi tentativi, arrivano finalmente a stabilizzare quella che sarà la prima formazione della band, composta da 8 elementi.<\/p>\n
Dopo una febbrile ed eccitante attività di composizione in sala prove, danno il via ad un’intensa stagione di concerti, riscuotendo l’interesse e la simpatia del pubblico palermitano. Tra la fine del 2014 e l’inizio del 2015 decidono che è arrivato il momento di registrare il materiale fino ad allora composto ed è così che si recano presso lo Zeit Studio di Palermo per incidere 15 tracce che, di lì a poco, vedranno la luce nel loro primo album self-titled, stampato esclusivamente in vinile con una tiratura di 300 copie e coprodotto insieme all’etichetta indipendente Tone Deaf Records.<\/p>\n
Dopo una prima fase di concerti di promozione dell’album appena uscito, ha inizio un periodo di instabilità della band che porterà ad alcuni cambi di formazione che andranno piano piano ad indebolire gli equilibri interni del gruppo e che alla fine del 2016 costringeranno i membri superstiti ad un periodo di riflessione e di inattività concertistica.Nell’estate del 2017 ha inizio la seconda fase della storia degli Smuggler Brothers. Con una nuova formazione ridotta a 5 elementi, si rintanano in sala prove per cominciare a comporre nuovo materiale e, lentamente, ma con le idee chiare sul da farsi, riprendono l’attività live.<\/p>\n
Sul finire dello stesso anno, come un segno del destino, vengono contattati dall’etichetta milanese Schema Records, che li ingaggia e li esorta alla composizione di nuovi brani e così, sotto la direzione artistica del compositore e chitarrista dei Calibro 35, Massimo Martellotta, nell’ottobre del 2018 i siciliani prendono il volo e partono alla volta di Milano per registrare negli studi della Edizioni Ishtar\/ Schema Records il loro secondo album “Musione”, previsto per maggio 2019.<\/p>\n
