“Did Swans Ever See God?” è il quarto album in studio dei Submarine Silence (Side Project dei membri fondatori dei ‘Moongarden’, Cristiano Roversi, tastiere e David Cremoni, chitarre) che riconferma Guillermo Gonzales alla voce e, indispensabile e graditissimo ospite, Valerio Michetti, altrimenti batterista de ‘La Grazia Obliqua’.<\/p>\n
Assenti dalle scene dal 2016 (Journey through Mine, Ma.Ra.Cash Records) tornano a deliziarci con un album che prosegue il lungo viaggio iniziato nel 2001 con l’omonimo ‘Submarine Silence’.<\/p>\n
La band si trova ancora una volta a spaziare fra suoni tipici del Rock Progressive Sinfonico di chiara matrice anglosassone, confermando la predilezione per l’esplorazione e la rivisitazione di scenari musicali creati negli anni ‘70 dai grandi maestri a tutti noi cari (Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Steve Hackett, Anthony Phillips, Camel), supportati da suoni di Mellotron e hammond originali, alla Tony Banks.<\/p>\n
Impressiona come il gruppo sappia, apparentemente con nonchalance, passare da riffs che rimandano a ‘Nursery Crime’ dei Genesis (come in Undone) o a complessi intrecci (contrappunti) proprietà quasi esclusiva dei grandissimi IQ dei primi anni ‘80 (Deeper kind of Cumber).<\/p>\n
Il risultato è un sound pieno, completo, equilibrato e sapientemente ricercato grazie anche all’utilizzo di arrangiamenti pressoché perfetti, curati dallo stesso Cristiano Roversi, e ad assoli di chitarra, ad opera indifferentemente di sei o dodici corde accarezzate dalle mani di David Cremoni, che ricordano da vicino il grande Michael Holmes (IQ) in assoli, sparsi qua e là, alcuni dei quali (Echoes Of Silence II The Answer) veri e propri capolavori.<\/p>\n
Non manca la canonica e perfetta ballata di Altereffect, dove un generoso Davide Marani si presta con la sua calda voce solista.<\/p>\n
Altri preziosi ospiti che hanno contribuito alla realizzazione dell’album sono Manuela Milanese, alla Voce e ai cori e Alberto Zanetti, nel duetto con il maestro David Cremoni in ‘A Deeper Kind Of Cumber’.<\/p>\n
Ultima, ma non in ordine di importanza, un’annotazione riguardo alla consueta e splendida copertina, opera di Ed Unitsky (già autore delle stesse nel terzo album).<\/p>\n
