\u201cArt Is A Cat\u201d was released in January 2020 and a couple of months later we entered a historical, social and economic moment that we will always remember: fluctuating, exciting, full of fears but also boosting towards a better future.<\/p>\n
\u201cTurn To See Me\u201d starts from where our previous album \u201cArt Is A Cat\u201d had arrived, and it could be considered its natural evolution, unless there\u2019s been very little natural in recent years.
\nWe started thinking about a mainly instrumental album with a deep work on words even before songs took shape, the classic post-folk ballads that are part of our trademark.<\/p>\n
We worked with Julie Normal and Bob Junior\u2019s French words in \u201cBonjour\u201d, written with Max Darmon, with the Italian ones by actress Emanuela Villagrossi in \u201cGli Inglesi e gli Americani\u201d, the Chilean ones of Gianpiero Kesten in \u201cNotturno Cileno\u201d (dedicated to the writer Roberto Bola\u00f1o), with the sounds of a southern Italian market in \u201cPronuncia di Levante\u201d and with Jonathan Clancy\u2019s post hip-hop tale in \u201cWhat\u2019s Your Path, Man\u201d, accompanied Maurizio Marsico at the piano.<\/p>\n
Then, we have the instrumental tracks, ranging from the cinematic atmospheres of \u201cLungo il Fiume e sull\u2019Acqua\u201d (almost a tribute to Morricone\u2019s \u201cInvestigation of a citizen above suspicion\u201d), the jazz of \u201cEmpty Window \/ Empty Space\u201d with Thomas Umbaca\u2019s piano and some darker and electronic sounds (\u201cI Am Here\u201d and \u201cWater and Sea\u201d).<\/p>\n
Finally, we have the \u2018proper\u2019 songs with the title-track, written in collaboration with Chiara Castello (from the band I\u2019m not a Blonde) and \u201cDesire\u201d featuring Egeeno, another spectacular voice of the Roman collective Tropicantesimo that here communicates with Gianni Sansone\u2019s trumpet.<\/p>\n
A composite and profound album, melancholic like the times we are living in, projected towards a future that, although complex, is still to be discovered.<\/p>\n
\u201cTurn To See Me\u201d is an exhortation, almost a prayer to turn towards the others, with concrete, poetic, political actions.<\/p>\n
\u201cTurn To See Me\u201d is a record full of love.<\/p>\n
The Dining Rooms (Stefano Ghittoni & Cesare Malfatti)<\/strong> <\/p>\n When Stefano and Cesare asked me to illustrate the cover of their new LP, I thought about how to suggest the movement described in the title \u201cTurn To See Me\u201d, and I chose the moment before the subject turns, leaving everything else to the viewer\u2019s imagination and creating a moment of suspension.
