Ennesimo gruppo ‘fuori tempo massimo’ della gloriosa stagione d’oro del rock progressivo italiano, Il Baricentro – nome che non a caso tradisce la provenienza pugliese dei musicisti – si formò nella metà degli anni ’70 per iniziativa dei fratelli Francesco e Vanni Boccuzzi, provenienti dagli allora già disciolti Festa Mobile.
Il secondo e purtroppo ultimo album, “Trusciánt”, fu pubblicato nel 1978: come nel caso dell’esordio, siamo di fronte a jazz-rock strumentale dominato da tastiere e synth, che non concede spazio alcuno alle nuove correnti musicali dell’epoca (punk, new wave, disco music…), ma che resta saldamente ancorato al sound dei primi anni ’70; già all’epoca i paragoni con Weather Report e Return to Forever si sprecarono, ma Il Baricentro non riununcia a quel flavour mediterraneo che ha reso uniche moltissime produzioni di prog italiano, incluso il qui presente “Trusciánt”.

Yet another ‘out of time’ band from the glorious golden season of Italian progressive rock, Il Baricentro – a name that does not coincidentally reveals the musicians’ origins (Bari/center, Puglia) – were founded in the mid-’70s by brothers Francesco and Vanni Boccuzzi, out from the ashes of Festa Mobile.
The second and – unfortunately – last album, “Trusciánt”, was published in 1978: as for the debut, we face here another instrumental jazz-rock LP dominated by keyboards and synths, with no space at all for the new musical trends of the time (punk, new wave, disco music…), but that remains firmly anchored to the sound of the early ’70s; already at the time Baricentro were often compared with Weather Report and Return to Forever, but there’s a strong difference in their Mediterranean flavour, the one that has made many Italian prog productions unique, “Trusciánt” included.
First ever reissue in LP format, in a faithful reproduction of the original cover.
