This is one of the most ambitious projects of Schema Records: the encounter between the well known DJ, producer, and composer Nicola Conte and the composer, musician, and trombonist Gianluca Petrella.
Influenced by his father who played the trombone, Gianluca Petrella has become today a reality in the world of jazz, not only in Italy but also internationally thanks to the collaboration with musicians of a calibre like that of Enrico Rava. Gianluca was born in Bari and it is not by chance that Nicola Conte wanted his collaboration so much so as to think up a project called Nicola Conte & Gianluca Petrella which will very soon mature into an album that will be released on the Schema label. These two tracks are only a taste in which Nicola’s skills as producer and composer are mixed together with Gianluca’s abilities to compose and perform.
These tracks are influenced by the jazz music from the ‘60s and from the sounds of the big bands like Gil Evans, Don Ellis, and George Russell.
These tracks are perfectly in line with the present day genre nu-jazz with a strong influence from the club music. “New Standards” has a base drum in 4/4 while “Tema per Hi-Fi” is your typical Bossa flavor. Both of the tracks contain performances and improvisations by just as important musicians from the Italian panorama like the trumpet player Fabrizio Bosso and the vibraphonist Pasquale Bardaro.
