L’essenza dei siciliani Malibran è perfettamente racchiusa nella loro presentazione ufficiale: nascono nell’estate del 1987, e fin dall’inizio suonano un rock progressivo elegante, raffinato e coinvolgente, intriso di magici umori anni ’70. La presenza del flauto traverso e le frequenti reminiscenze classiche rendono la loro musica ricca di fascino, non priva, poi, di una notevole potenza e resa spettacolare dal vivo.
Oggi forse in pochi si ricordano di questa formazione, o nemmeno ne hanno mai sentito parlare, eppure si tratta di uno dei più importanti nomi della scena progressive italiana degli anni ’90 e 2000! Attingono a piene mani dal prog classico, quello di King Crimson, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, tutti omaggiati in questa release speciale dalla durata complessiva di quasi 80 minuti, divisi tra cover e pezzi originali che mai prima d’ora avevano visto la luce. Impossibile, in particolare, non lasciarsi trasportare dai 13 variegati minuti della title-track in apertura, ma il livello di coinvolgimento si mantiene alto anche nei successivi brani, equamente divisi tra atmosfere rock e acustiche.
Siamo indubbiamente di fronte a un disco consistente, non a una banale compilation di brani già noti destinata ad affollare un panorama già saturo. Un atteso segnale di vita, che non potrà che destare l’attenzione dei migliori appassionati di rock progressivo italiano e non solo!

The essence of Sicilian Malibran is fully enclosed in their official presentation: they were born in the summer of 1987, playing since the beginning an elegant progressive rock, refined and engaging, full of magical ’70s moods. The presence of the flute and the frequent classical reminiscences make their music fascinating, also considerably powerful and spectacular in the band’s live performances.
Today perhaps just few people remember of this group, or even have never heard of them, yet they’re one of the most important names in the Italian prog scene of the ’90s and ’00s! They liberally draw from classic prog, typical of King Crimson, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, all honored on this almost 80-minute special release, divided between covers and original pieces that have never seen the light until now. It’s practically impossible, in particular, not to get carried away by the varied 13-minute opening title-track, but the level of involvement remains high even in the subsequent tracks, equally divided between rock and acoustic atmospheres.
We are undoubtedly facing a consistent album, not a mere compilation of already known songs, destined to crowd an already saturated musical panorama. A long-awaited sign of life, which will arouse the attention of the best Italian progressive rock fans and more!
