After a long silence lasting since the previous “Milioni di Lune” (2012) waspublished, the eclectic artist Paola Tagliafero returns with her new creature “Fabulae”, her most ambitious project ever, the result of a long and elaborate 3-year gestation. In the same year 2012 the first meeting between Paola and EL&P’s Greg Lake took place, and the English musician convinced her to have confide in herself and concentrate in this new adventure.
In “Fabulae” esoteric allegories, symbols and sounds blend together; paths were traced by important texts of Zen philosophy, Buddhism, Hinduism, psychology and by studies and listening sessions of the ancient Dhrupad chant, of the European classics, of the early 20th century composers sperimentalism, of ’70s prog-rock and avant-garde up to contemporary spontaneous improvisations.
A work carried out in total creative autarky, with Paola in the role of multi-instrumentalist and principal coordinator and various external contributions, both material and spiritual. First of all Pier Gonella, guitarist and sound engineer, took care of all the arrangements with Paola and recorded the album at his studio MusicArt in Rapallo (Genova, Italy); we find then the Master Akhilesh Gundecha (pakhawaj, a typical Indian percussion), Giuliano Palmieri (electronic soundscapes and piano), Giulia Ermirio (viola), Roberta Righetti Namastè (violin), Luigi Jannarone (voice) and Angelo Contini (didgeridoo). Paola Tagliaferro personally dealt with all the other instruments: guitar, dulcimer, zither, Tibetan bell, wind chimes, tampura, cayon, calimba, sea stones, chopsticks, cymbal and castanets. Bernardo Lanzetti wrote for her the final song “To Absent Friends”. “Fabulae”, despite the variety of musical instruments used and the presence of various artists, is an acoustic and minimalist album; a work that comes not only from introspection and meditation, but also from desire to share of an ispired author who, satisfying her artistic and human needs, shows a
possible escape to serenity.
The disc is accompanied by a ‘notebook guide’ that aims to lead the listener along the path traced by the songs of “Fabulae”, and both CD and notebook are available in Italian and English language.
